About Her
Hi! My name is Kaleigh and I’m a student journalist in my third year at the University of Missouri-Columbia. I’ve been writing since elementary school, and it wasn’t until high school that I realized I wanted to pursue journalism as a career. I originally imagined myself becoming a writer and writing fiction books. But I realized I wanted to do more, and journalism offers a powerful way to cultivate my curiosity about the world and people while sharing their stories. I decided to make a blog not only to continue writing outside of school and work, but to also use this as a digital diary. I have so many photos in my camera roll and experiences I want to share. While I’m not a great photographer, and some of these photos are taken by my friends, it’s nice to look back on these memories. I love traveling, watching movies and shows, expanding my book collection, trying new coffee when I can, shopping, Chicago, spending time with my friends, music, and a whole bunch more you will see on this blog. Now, the big question…
Why Kaleighdascope?
My friend Jasmine and I were on the couch watching Christmas movies while I was working on my blog. Originally, I was going to choose "HER-Story" like "history", something my high school's history club used in their closing chant. But it didn't feel right. So, as almost any student in America nowadays resorts to when they're out of options, we asked AI for some inspiration. I preferred (although it wasn't necessary) incorporating my name into the title. We also tried to think of different words where I could combine my name with. Then we stumbled upon kaleidoscope. It sounded cheesy, but the meaning behind it really matched with the idea behind my website. They symbolize creativity, beauty, change, diversity, and endless possibilities. My favorite thing I've heard about them is that they represent life's events, and how we handle those events is what determines how they are reflected back to us. I don't want my brand to be one specific thing, but rather, a mosaic of ideas, styles, projects, and more. I have so many ideas that seem overwhelming, so this is a test run, and a way for me to explore what kind of writer I want to be. So thank you for joining me on this journey!
