“A man will never love you or treat you as well as a store. If a man doesn’t fit, you can’t exchange him seven days later for a gorgeous cashmere sweater." - Sophie Kinsella, Confessions of a Shopaholic

Editor’s Note
I love the feeling of walking into a store, my eyes immediately scanning the long, plentiful rows of a well-organized maze. I tend to follow a specific path and, depending on the store, I rarely swerve. Especially when they have the same layout. I give Von Maur, as an example. Once I walk through those golden doors, I’m greeted by the sound of the distant, yet sweet piano, knowing it’s being played by a human being and not a small black machine; to my left are the fancy derby accessories, and to my right, is the women’s section, where the path of the yellow brick road begins. My favorite thing to tell myself before I shop is, “it’s an investment!”, and it’s what I remind myself when I walk out those same doors, sometimes shamefully. It’s a beautiful feeling, that first look. When your eyes find that specific article of clothing; it stands out from the rest like a needle in a haystack. And when your fingers grasp it, you begin to envision the numerous outfits you could create with it. It holds so much potential, you think to yourself. And you lay it on your arm, knowing it’s yours for the time being until you solidify your decision in the fitting room or at the register.
There’s a reason why the movie “Confessions of a Shopaholic” holds such a special place in my heart. I remember growing up watching that movie, and thinking to myself, “I want to be her.” Not for the debt, but for her keen eye for fashion, her knowledge of sales and best places to shop, and especially, Rebecca Bloomwood's confidence. When planning my blog, this fashion column was one of the first ideas that came to mind. I love putting outfits together, browsing for inspiration, and shopping in general, and can't wait to showcase some of my favorite styles.
